Wow – this labor/delivery was a million times easier than Malachi. Evangeline made it seem like the birth canal is similar to a slip-n-slide. Contractions (the real deal, not just the painful ones that accomplish nothing) began around 11 a.m. yesterday morning. Halim and I took Malachi home and dropped him off at the Pecks so that I could breathe, moan and yell through the contractions without freaking out the little guy (because he was giving me some strange looks). By 2:00 p.m. contractions were killing me and were about five to six minutes apart. We called the doctor and went into the office to get checked and I was dilated to 3 cm. We checked into the hospital around 3 p.m. and it was insane from that point on. Got the epidural around 4 p.m. and was dilated to a 6. Fifteen minutes later I was dilated to a 7 1/2. Around 6 p.m. the nurse came into check me and I told her that it felt like something was starting to come out “down there” – and sure enough, it was Evie’s head! The doctor came in with an army of nurses, I pushed about three times and there she was. She is doing great, nursing well and I’m recovering pretty well, too. Thanks to all those who have been praying for us and sending encouraging emails and texts!

As a side note, Halim’s daily Bible reading today is in Leviticus and happens to be the chapter on purification after childbirth – so consider me “unclean” for two weeks since I gave birth to a female child. . .

You and I have almost exactly the same delivery experience! How cool! I ended up pushing once simply as a convenience to speed things up. Otherwise he would have fallen right out! I’m happy for you guys and have really enjoyed sort of experiencing things simultaneously! …more to come, huh?!
