Pictured above is my dear friend, Robin Inks. Robin is currently living out my single person dream. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love Halim and I love Malachi and would not trade my current life for anything in the world. However, had the Lord willed for me to be single a little longer or permanently, I like to imagine that my life would look somewhat like hers at the moment. Robin is currently a principal at a small village school in the Dominican Republic (henceforth referred to as “the DR”). She graduated from UT with a teaching degree and fluency in Spanish and took off to go and minister to some kiddos in a very poor area in the DR. I love this about Robin – she was at a transition point in her life and thought, “What’s stopping me from going?”

I know that all the single women that I know get so tired of hearing from us married ladies, “Make the most of your singleness! It’s so great! You can go wherever, do whatever exciting things the Lord might have for you! Just go!” But, it is so true. And it may not mean that you go off and live in the DR or Africa or Bolivia . . . but it could. I hope that every woman in the world, single or not, would read “The Hiding Place” by Corrie Ten Boom. She is a new hero of the faith to me and I was amazed and challenged at how she lived her life, as a single woman, devoted to the Lord and ministering to Jews during the Holocaust and their German captors after the war was over. In fact, to encourage your actual purchase and reading of this book, you can just click here and it will take you to Amazon where I searched “The Hiding Place” and you can get a used copy for like $2!

So, thank you to Robin – you inspire me. If you’d like to see more about what she is doing in the DR, you can click on the link to her blog under “Our Buddies.”

I don’t think I know Robin, but please pass onto her that she’s living my “if I was single dream” as well…..awesome.

  2. Hi, Angela. I am unsure if you remember me as we only actually met once or twice. I am a partner of The Stone currently living in Botswana, Africa as an “educational missionary” and I want to completely second everything you said in this post! I also want to encourage any woman who is single and maybe a bit afraid of stepping out of their comfort zone to follow God’s leading, wherever that may be. There is no better or fuller life than living on mission with Him! The lie that “I need to wait until I am married before going” is one that I hope God rids from every single woman’s heart. Also, The Hiding Place is also a book that I dearly love and has inspired me beyond words. Thank you so much for encouraging others to read this book. This is such a great post and has totally encouraged me!
Blessings to you and the family,
    Andrea Murray
